In the belly of fascism and colonialism it’s a trans-disciplinary project conceived for the diploma at the Fine arts Academy Vienna (2013) that I developed further over the years, especially during the international fellowship residency at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen (2015).
The research I have conducted attempts to understand the visceral relation between the two historical phenomena proposed in the title, their enduring nourishment by oppression and violence, and present-day necrocapitalist practices, by excavating in the belly of the beast. In other words, my interest is on the one hand to analyse historical colonialism and fascism, with a particular reference to the Italian context, and their intersection with contemporary forms of coloniality and modes of fascistation. On the other hand to endorse a de-colonial approach in all spheres of white dominated societies (from education, to politics, language, love, relations, work, media) especially through the thinking and critical engagement of activists and cultural workers that are precise regarding their post-colonial lineage and counteract hegemonic narratives given as “natural” and unquestioned. It is crucial to acquire a non-Eurocentric genealogy of our European history.
It is more a platform than a single project, which for each presentation it takes a different shape by the use of different practises and devices (videos, photos, self produced publications, sculptures, archival material, intervention, lecture-performance, workshops etc.).
The investigation I carried on through these years is an on going process and I consider it a lifetime commitment.
